2024 Belmont Transportation Bonds
On November 5, 2024, as a Belmont resident, you will have the opportunity to vote yes for Belmont Transportation Bonds.
About the Bonds
The critical infrastructure projects identified in the bond package address pressing transportation issues facing the community, ensuring long-term economic prosperity for both Belmont and Gaston County as a whole.
Road, intersection, and sidewalk improvements are needed to reduce vehicle congestion, and safely accommodate pedestrians and cyclists, especially around schools, parks, and retail establishments.
Belmont is intentionally managing the effects of growth and proactively addressing its impacts through this bond package. Without such improvements to critical infrastructure, the local economy is vulnerable to stagnation.
With the City’s proven track record of fiscal responsibility, voter-approved bonds are an effective and prudent way to finance these essential projects, providing a sustainable solution for Belmont’s immediate and future needs.
What to know
By voting in the upcoming bond referendum, Belmont residents have a direct say in the city's future transportation improvements, including expansions, intersection improvements, new sidewalks, pedestrian safety features, and more.
The proposed transportation bond projects aim to enhance pedestrian safety around Belmont's schools and parks. This means safer sidewalks, better lighting, and more pedestrian-friendly crossings for our community.
Beyond bonds, city officials can petition the State of North Carolina to appropriate additional funding for state roads, apply for grant funding, utilize Powell Bill funds or a combination thereof.
Belmont's long-term transportation plans include projects to enhance connectivity throughout the city. The bond funding will support a variety of improvements, making the city more accessible and connected for all.
